2019 TFFB in MIT

The Taiwan Film Festival in Boston (TFFB) concluded successfully on May 27th, 2019. Nearly 1000 tickets were sold, with last-minute extra tickets added to the Festival’s second day. The Closing Reception was attended by over 230 guests, far exceeding anticipation. Audience responses to the post-festival survey so far show a 99% satisfaction rate. The Festival’s success is the fruit of the dedication and support from all of our volunteers, sponsors, filmmaker guests, and audiences.

From conception to reality, the planning of the first TFFB spanned only 6 months. In that time, the Festival’s organizers set the event’s mission and themes; selected the films; liaised with filmmakers for screening rights and travel; sought out sponsors and event locations; built volunteer teams; designed publicity visuals; prepared content for panel discussions; and added special features such as short films and a live comedic performance. Organizers constantly communicated with internal and external teams, developed and executed project priorities, and publicized the event through diverse formal and social media channels. As a volunteer team, very organizer dedicated time outside of their work, school, and personal lives to creating this event. For example, graduate students Blake Liu and Fan-Yun Lan took on significant technical and liaison roles in the midst of final and qualifying exams, and student Chung-Ping Chou took on many tasks, including the Festival co-MC, while graduating and searching for jobs. In the end, the team’s mutual commitment to the Festival and to each other resulted in a successful event and heart-felt appreciation and friendship.
