18×2 Beyond Youthful Days

“18×2 Beyond Youthful Days” (2024) is a romance drama jointly produced in Taiwan and Japan.  The film is adapted from a Taiwanese internet blog about backpacking through Japan on a slow train; directed by Michihito Fujii (with one-quarter Taiwanese heritage); produced by Chang Chen; and starring Greg Hsu and Kaya Kiyohara.  The story follows 36 year-old Taiwanese man Jimmy.  When he happens on an old postcard from Ami, a girl he met 18 years ago in Japan, Jimmy takes up a meandering solo journey through Japan once more.  Along the way, he recalls his young romance with Ami, and encounters people and situations that cause him to reflect on life.  Critics have praised this film for its simple but delicate storytelling, naturalistic actor work, and effective evocation of the Japanese and Taiwanese settings.

About the Movie
