About the Movie
Confronting farewells or death is often daunting, simply because they are so unknown. A Silenct Before Farewell is a documentary centered on pet long-term care and end-of-life journeys. Through the daily routine of veterinarian Liao Kuan-chih and his quiet dialogues with various pet families, the film explores how to learn to say goodbye within these moments of stillness. It invites the audience to experience the shifting emotions that come before making a choice, through one imperfect farewell after another.
About the Director
I-Hsuan Li
I-Hsuan Li is a freelance filmmaker who holds an MFA in Theatre Directing from East 15 Acting School. Specializing in documentaries, Li explores human choices and interactions, using cinema to bridge perspectives and spark dialogues through deep mutual understanding.
His debut documentary, Mutualism, was nominated for the TIDF Taiwan Competition. He followed this with the short film A Day bases on the past days. His latest feature-length project, Get Back to the Game, which explores the lives of two sports mental coaches, has been awarded a grant by the Ministry of Culture and is slated for completion in 2027.
