Jin, at the age of sixty, believed she had already weathered all of life’s storms.
After divorcing her ex-husband in her forties, she had been living a leisurely and content life: dancing, dining out, and playfully bickering with her younger daughter, Zuer. Jin’s tranquil days, however, were suddenly upended when she learned that her daughter Zuer, while abroad undergoing assisted reproductive procedures with her same-sex partner, had been in a tragic car accident. Traveling to the U.S. to deal with the aftermath, Jin not only had to handle her daughter’s affairs but also faced a life-altering decision regarding the embryos her daughter left behind: Should they be donated, kept frozen, brought to term, or destroyed?
Accompanied by her childhood sweetheart, Old Johnny, and her estranged elder daughter Emma, who was abandoned at birth and adopted by another family, Jin is forced to confront the regrets of her past. Together, this unfamiliar mother-daughter pair embarks on a bittersweet and absurd journey through grief, healing, and rediscovery.
What decision will Jin make about her daughter’s embryos?
When the final moment comes, what choice will she make?
