About the Movie
With limited opportunities for clinical midwifery training in Taiwan, young midwife Kai-Lin Tang travels to a traditional clinic in Puli to learn from an experienced practitioner. Through late-night routines and encounters across generations, the film follows her journey into a fading birthing culture. While caring for others, Kai-Lin also carries uncertainty about her own future. Her daily work and lived experience reflect the emotional realities of caring for families, as well as bodily memories that are gradually losing their place in contemporary Taiwan.
About the Director
Chih-Han Li
Born in Taiwan, Chih-Han Li has worked in documentary post-production since 2015, primarily on art and portrait documentaries. In recent years, she has gradually shifted her creative focus from editing to directing, using film to explore the relationships between people and the places they inhabit. The Whisper of Midwives is her directorial debut and received Third Prize at the New Taipei City Documentary Award.
Through this work, she reflects on emotional experience and bodily memory shaped through relationships of care, hoping to share this way of seeing with audiences as well as herself.
